Learning outcomes:

Apprehending the complex issues of urban dynamics. Acquiring the theoretical mechanisms for understanding, interpreting and possibly anticipating the evolution of the city in the current and future context.

Content:

2. The relationship between architecture and urbanism: colage city vs. recombinant urbanism
3. The urban context. Transect
4. The relationship between transect and zoning
5. The particularities of the urban form and the importance of the context
6. Perception in urban planning and the role of urban design (1)
7. Perception in urban planning and the role of urban design (2)
8. An adaptive methodology for urban transformation
9. Iconic buildings. Iconic design
10. Urban form development: instruments for analysis
11. 9 principles of urban design for XXI the century: sustainability, acceessibility, diversity
12. 9 principles of urban design for the XXI century: open space, compatibility, competitivity
13. 9 principles of urban design for the XXI century: adaptability, density, identity
14. Challanges for the future. Cities of tomorrow.

Teaching Method:

Illustrated and commented exposition. Case studies

Assessment:

Oral exam and presentation of a paper on a fixed topic in the middle of the semester.
